Job Summary:

The Solutions Engineering Manager will lead highly skilled systems, software, and customer support teams to develop and implement custom solutions based on Owl products.  We are seeking a dynamic and experienced manager who is passionate about developing creative solutions to satisfy unique customer needs. The Solutions Engineering Manager will work with the team, and particularly their project leads, ensure high quality solutions are developed that exceed customer expectations.  The Solutions Engineering Manager will also work closely with existing Software and Firmware Engineering Directors to shape future product development efforts.  The ideal candidate has extensive customer interaction experience, a strong understanding of embedded systems, software development lifecycle, and secure communications, along with strong leadership skills to foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture.  This is a hybrid work arrangement, with the successful candidate expected to be in the office (Columbia, MD, Raleigh, NC, or Danbury, CT) 2-3 days/week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the development and implementation of customer solutions using existing Owl products.  Ideally Owl products are leveraged and augmented for customers, with the resulting additions folded back into the core product, when appropriate.
  • Accelerate product roadmap of existing Owl products by enhancing with customer funded desires.
  • Ensure SDRLs are provided to customers as part of overall solution.
  • Work with Program Management to ensure resources are aligned to support program deliverables.
  • Collaborate with product management and engineering development teams to establish product roadmap and inform of customer desires.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams (hardware, product, systems test, etc.) to ensure product requirements and technical specifications are met.
  • Work with senior management to plan and prioritize projects consistent with business requirements.
  • Mentor, train, lead and develop team members, provide constructive feedback, and identify opportunities for skills development and career advancement.
  • Set clear performance goals, provide regular feedback, and support career development.
  • With project leads, manage solutions engineering team development schedule. Ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, and fully tested, satisfying customer expectations.
  • Maintain resource management plan and assign resources to project teams.
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines, quality standards, and best practices across projects.
  • Drive continuous improvement in code quality, performance, and maintainability.
  • Provide staffing, schedule, and estimate responses for new proposals.
  • Maintain organizational (ISO9001, AS9100, CMMC, RTB) compliance.
  • Facilitate communications across teams, providing project status and prioritization according to effort and company goals.
  • Define and communicate project milestones and resource allocation to executive team, and department leads
  • Drive technical discussions and decision-making processes with senior leadership.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Education
    • BS in software or firmware engineering, computer science, or equivalent field.
  • Experience
    • 10+ years of experience in software or firmware engineering development, including at least 2 years as project team lead.  Communications, defense or government experience preferred.
    • Experience successfully leading product development projects.
    • At least 5 years with direct customer interaction responsibility.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Experience with secure software development principles
    • Familiarity with debugging, performance optimization, and system-level testing.
    • Experience interacting with customers to elicit requirements and demonstrate solutions.
    • Knowledge of computer system architecture
    • Experience debugging system level problems
    • Familiarity with AI tools.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and critical thinking ability
    • Project management skills to manage continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Overall coordination, development, and execution of product development.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills
    • Strong ability to prioritize tasks
    • Experience in hiring, scaling teams, and managing remote engineering teams.
  • Additional Competencies/Requirements
    • This is a hybrid work arrangement, candidate expected to commute to an Owl office(Columbia, MD, Raleigh, NC, or Danbury, CT) 2-3 days/week.
    • Candidates must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance
