Owl is hiring a Quality Engineer to join our team. In this position, you will be expected to understand new product designs and features in depth, develop and author rigorous test plans and strategies to cover the development work, and execute those strategies through repeatable test cases to determine the overall quality of new products. This will occur across a variety of Owl product lines; each of which support mission critical, hardware/software cybersecurity systems. This role will challenge you consider the functional, negative and edge test cases to validate a design and to develop efficient automated methods of testing.
Your efforts will contribute to the successful testing of complex systems, ensuring the delivery of products with the highest quality that meet the needs of the customer base. A successful candidate is independent, organized, methodical, resourceful, energetic, a fast learner, has excellent communication skills and is open to new ideas / experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand complex hardware/software systems to create and execute tests to validate and verify that system behaviors align with requirements and customer expectations.
- Convert business requirements/functional specifications into test plans and test cases.
- Design, develop, and maintain automated system tests to ensure the quality and reliability of software applications.
- Identify and report software defects and verify fixes to ensure software quality.
- Write, maintain, and execute manual and automated test cases as needed.
- Validate the correctness of functional test steps and product documentation.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Education
- Bachelors’ degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field required.
- Red Hat Certified System Administrator is a plus
- Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Test Engineering/Software Development

- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Experience with performance testing and using network performance test tools (ex. IXIA, Spirent, Wireshark) a plus.
- Experience with XML generation tools and XML Schema Creation a plus
- Strong programming skills in a scripting language (ex. Python, Perl, Bash) and / or an interpreted language (ex. C/C++, Java, Rust).
- Experience with TCP and UDP protocols, general networking concepts and networking troubleshooting methods.
- Working knowledge of Red Hat Linux or its derivatives (Fedora, CentOS).
- Experience with SELinux is a plus
- Experience with continuous integration and/or automation tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, Ansible, Open QA, or Selenium
- Experience with automated testing frameworks such as Pytest, Junit, or Cunit.
- Knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and processes.
- Additional Competencies/Requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills.
- US Citizenship is required.
